Resilience - applying lessons from 9/11 today!

Where were you on the day that JFK was assassinated? What were you doing when man landed on the moon? How did you feel when you heard that Princess Dianna had died? The chances are that if I asked you, “How did 9/11 impact you?” I would get the strongest response…

Elias Kanaris was one of 198 passengers on flight UA929, flying between London Heathrow and Chicago O’Hare on that fateful day. His was one of 38 planes that descended into Gander airport on September 11th, Now the subject of the musical, “Come From Away”, this narrative of resilience is shared by Elias 20 years on.

As a result of 9/11, life seemed to shut down overnight. The airline industry was decimated, and nobody thought it could recover. Yet, despite outward appearances, business returned to normal.

Delegates will learn more about:

  1. The power of the community

  2. How to function after a traumatic event

  3. Why making bets on your future based on your past events is flawed

Lessons learned from 9/11

In this Keynote about resilience, Elias Kanaris crafts the story of how his plane was diverted to Gander airport in Newfoundland, Canada on the fateful day in 2001. With uncertainty, the passengers endured a full day and night stuck in the plane, on the tarmac, until they were instructed to disembark. They filled 5 buses and were transported to stay at the Salvation Army Church in the sleepy hollow of Gambo.

Elias will work with you to bring key messages of leadership and resilience to your audience.

Sample Keynote.

In this Keynote, Elias uses his experience of 9/11 to demonstrate the power of resilience and diversity as he takes his audience through the devastating affect of the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers.

He tailors his message to the audience - in this case the Professional Speaking Association of New Zealand - where he relates it to the challenges of building an international business, identifying pitfalls and obstacles that the audience faces.
